Last updated 4 October 2026. Plain English: what the Stride Stories app collects, why, and how to delete it.
Your account. If you sign in, we store your email address (to send sign-in links) and the display name you choose. You can use public tours without an account.
Location. The app uses your phone's location during a tour to know where you are on the route, play each story at the right place and show your run. This happens on your phone. We don't upload your GPS trace.
Run stats (only if you turn on "Share run stats"). Which stories you start, finish, skip or miss, pauses, moments off the route and "I'm here" taps, with where they happened as a distance along the route (in miles), not GPS coordinates. We also keep the list of places you've heard so new tours can favour new stories. We use this to improve tours. Turning it off stops it at once.
Error reports (on unless you turn them off). When the app hits a problem it sends a short report: what went wrong, the app version and the type of phone. Reports leave out your location, email and anything you typed.
Feedback. If you send feedback from the app, we receive your message with the app version and phone type.
Tours made for you (Create). When you ask for a tour, we store your request: the start and finish you chose (which can be your home), distance, pace, interests and notes. We use AI tools, including Anthropic's Claude, to research and write the tour, and ElevenLabs to voice the story text. Your start address is never put in a story. Tours that start at someone's home stay private to that account and never appear in Explore or our shared story library. Stories about public places may be added to the shared library for other tours.
Tours in your account. Tours you create or upload are stored in your account. Members of the Stride Stories team can view them, including private ones, to build, fix and support them.
Spotify playlists. When you make a Spotify mix, the genres, artists and explicit-lyrics choice you picked are sent to our server with the tour name. Stride Stories' own Spotify account creates a public playlist from them. You don't sign in to Spotify through us, and the playlist isn't linked to your Stride Stories account. Your internet address is used briefly to stop too many playlists being made at once and isn't stored.
Strava (optional). If you connect Strava, your Strava sign-in is kept on your phone. With your permission we add one line about your tour to the matching Strava activity's description. We don't store or share your Strava data.
Your data is stored and processed by these services for us: Supabase (accounts and database), Cloudflare (file storage), Render (our server), Expo (app updates), Anthropic (writing tours you request), ElevenLabs (narration of story text), and Spotify and Strava when you use those features. Data may be stored in the United States.
In the app, open your account and tap Delete my account. This deletes your email, your tours and routes, home start points, run history, places heard and favourites, and the files stored with your tours. We keep anonymous totals that can't be linked back to you, and feedback you sent. Stories about public places stay in the library. You can also email support@stridestories.com and we'll delete it for you.
Stride Stories isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app if the change matters. Questions: support@stridestories.com.
